Heidi’s Word of the Year
Each year, I choose a word that I want to strive to embody in the year ahead. As I contemplated my choice for 2025, I sat with hopes of bringing more ease and less noise into my life- of intentionally building the next 12 months to bring more joy… and so my word for 2025 is THRIVE. Now that we have a couple years of the cafe under our belt I want my life- personal and professional to embody thriving- not just surviving! The best way for me to build a year around my word is to set pointed goals. Find out how I’m going to thrive in 2025:
Take care of myself- as a mom and owner of a small business, sometimes the needs outside of my own take precedence. This year I will prioritize my needs too! This business was founded on the belief that our lifestyle and food choices make an impact on our health- so I’m taking it back to basics- being sure to hydrate more and exercise once a week. Mental health is paramount to physical health and therefore I’m going to force myself to take a sabbath each week- no more working seven days a week… and this means not working AND spending time focusing on things that bring me relaxation and restoration- a true day of rest for body, mind, and spirit.
When we all wish for more hours in a day, it’s also worth breaking down just exactly what you are doing with each hour as it is. Can you get some back? For me, this means re-delegating time spent on socials- instagram specifically. In 2025 I’ll be checking in on insta three times a day… how do I break the habit of tapping the app on autopilot? I set alarms for 10 am, 3 pm, and 8 pm daily. I love the engagement with the community on instagram but want to be more conscious about time boundaries around its use.
I’m very excited to incorporate baking at least one new recipe per week into the year ahead. For me, one of the best, most fun parts about the job I’ve built for myself is the creativity and experimentation of trying out new flavor combinations and ingredients in the kitchen. Our business is built on re-creating favorite treats to be better for our bodies- so the possibilities really are endless! While we have our cafe signatures, it’s great to break up routine by adding new treats and processes into the mix.
My last action point to thrive in 2025 is expressing more gratitude- a buzzword, but for good reason. I want to reflect on who and what I’m grateful for in the year ahead and actually share it with others. I plan to demonstrate my gratitude for the people in my life by writing letters, notes, text messages, and by actually speaking words of appreciation in person. Sometimes people really have no idea how grateful we are for them- in 2025, I don’t want people to wonder! I’m also including gratefulness in my prayers and speaking affirming beliefs about myself to myself out loud. Gratitude has an immense capacity to improve the quality of my life. In our house, we started a gratitude jar this year- we’ll add post-it notes throughout the next 12 months of things and people and experiences, big and small, that we want to remember. In December, we’ll go through all the notes and reflect on just how much we have to be thankful for in 2025!
Whether or not my word and accompanying goals for 2025 resonate with you; I’d encourage you to reflect and dream about what you want to bring with you in the year ahead. What do you want to cultivate and what do you want to build? If you don’t think it’s possible to achieve, what is limiting you and how can you consciously address those beliefs or habits standing in your way. I’m so grateful for the human capacity to grow and evolve- it brings new promise of the possibility that each year we truly can be better than the last. As eras build on themselves, when we look back into the years that led us here, we can truly appreciate how much we’ve grown and find the motivation to continue forging into the future.
